How to Notify Email Subscribers of New Posts in WordPress

Do you want to notify your website users or email subscribers about new posts on your WordPress blog?

When you notify your subscribers about new content, you help yourself stay in touch with them and keep them engaged. This, in turn, brings them back to your website, allowing you to convert them into customers.

In this article, we’ll show you how you can automatically notify subscribers when new posts are published on your WordPress blog.

We will discuss two methods for emailing WordPress users and email list subscribers whenever a new WordPress article or post is published.

Method 1 – Using MailOptin: MailOptin is a leading WordPress email marketing tool. It’s very easy to set up and operate.

Method 2 – Using MailOptin + MailChimp: Many of you are probably using MailChimp already. In that case, we recommend connecting it with MailOptin. Because, although MailChimp offers an RSS to Email feature, it only sends emails to your subscribers and not WordPress users. Besides, with MailOptin, you can set up new post alerts from within the WordPress dashboard.

Please note that in addition to Mailchimp, MailOptin also supports sending emails to contacts or subscribers in other email marketing software, including Campaign Monitor, Sendy, Constant Contact, AWeber, ConvertKit, MailerLite, GetResponse, Klaviyo, ActiveCampaign, SendinBlue, SendGrid, Mailjet, Keap/Infusionsoft, Vertical Response, CleverReach, and Moosend.

Using MailOptin to Automate New Post Alerts

To notify your email subscribers of new posts in WordPress using MailOptin, get the plugin and install it on your WordPress website.

Exporting Leads

If you have an existing list of subscribers, then you need to import them. Go to MailOptin > Leads > Import. Then simply follow the instructions by the plugin.

But if you don’t have a list ready, you need to start collecting leads on your website. MailOptin will help you do just that and much more. With MailOptin Leads you can learn the date and time of conversions, pages that referred the user to the conversion page, and the URL of the page where the conversion occurred.

Collecting Leads

Go to MailOptin > Optin Campaigns > Add New and then name the campaign. Next, select a lead collection box. There are plenty to choose from. On the next page, you can customize the box according to your needs and save changes.

Once you have a list of subscribers, proceed to automate new post alerts.

Automating New Post Alerts For Subscribers

Go to MailOptin > Emails > Add New. Select Email Automation > New Post Notifications. Give the email campaign a title. Then, select whether to use a pre-built template or a new one from scratch.

If you choose the pre-built template, you’ll be taken to the email building tool where you can customize the email template as per your needs.

Next, go to Settings > Select Connection > MailOptin Leads.

PRO TIP: To send new post alerts from custom post types, go to Settings > Select Post Types and select the custom post type.

And finally, toggle on the Sent Immediately option on the Settings page. This will ensure that the emails are sent right after a post is published.

Automating New Post Alerts to WordPress Users

To notify WordPress users about new posts, you need to create a new email campaign. We have already covered the steps you need to take to build a new campaign in the previous section. Just make sure that when it comes to the Select Connection option, choose WordPress Registered Users instead of MailOptin Leads.

That’s it. You have successfully set up MailOptin to send automated new post alerts.

Use MailOptin + Mailchimp to Automate New Post Alerts

Mailchimp is the most popular email marketing tool out there. Those of you who are already using it can combine the tool with MailOptin to send automated new post alerts. As we said earlier, unlike MailChimp, MailOptin allows you to send email alerts to both subscribers and WordPress users. It also lets you operate from within the WordPress dashboard.

Now, let’s set up Mailchimp and MailOptin.

Setting Up MailChimp

If you don’t already have a Mailchimp account, create one; it’s super easy.

Next, you can either import a list of subscribers or create a pop-up form to collect subscribers.

Import Subscribers

To import a list of subscribers, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Have the subscriber list ready as a comma-separated value (CSV) file. The file should have at least three columns: Email Addresses, First Name, and Last Name. Make sure you have formatted dates and birthdays as per these guidelines.
  2. To import the contacts into MailChimp, go to Audience > Audience dashboard > All contacts > Add contacts > Import contacts > Upload file.
  3. Next, you will be asked to select a status. From the drop-down menu choose Subscribed.
  4. Under Select groups, select Customers and Monthly.
  5. You have the option to add tags if you want to.
  6. Finally, click on Finalize Import > Complete Import.

And that’s it. Please note that there is a limit to the number of contacts you can import. If you cross that limit you will be subjected to additional charges. Learn more.

It’s time to set up MailOptin to send automated new posts alerts.

Connecting MailChimp With MailOptin

First things first – you need to create a MailChimp API. Open your MailChimp account and go to Account > Extras > API keys > Create a Key. MailChimp will create a key that looks like this:

Next, go to your WordPress dashboard and install the plugin on your website. Then select MailOptin > Settings > License and enter your license key.

Now go to MailOptin > Integrations > MailChimp and enter the API key to establish a connection between MailOptin and MailChimp.

Using MailOptin to Automate New Post Alerts

Earlier in the article, we covered how to use MailOptin to automate new post alerts for subscribers and WordPress users. You need to follow the same steps here. Just make sure that when you are customizing the email, under Select connection, you choose MailChimp. This is to ensure that the emails are sent to the subscribers you uploaded in MailChimp in one of the previous steps.

Emailing WooCommerce Customers When New Products are Added

If you are running a WooCommerce store, then keeping your subscribers and users updated about new product listings is a great way to draw traffic and promote sales.

You can use MailOptin to send automated email alerts, or you can combine your existing email marketing tool (like MailChimp) with MailOptin and then use MailOptin to send automated email alerts.

There are two benefits to this combination. One, you can send new post alerts to your store users, and two, you can work from within the WordPress dashboard.

In the previous section, we have covered step-by-step guides on how to use MailOptin as a standalone tool and how to combine and use both MailOptin and MailChimp. Please follow that guide.

IMPORTANT: When you are customizing the email, there is an option called Select Post Types. By default, it chooses WordPress Posts. You need to modify that and choose Products. This will ensure that every time a product is added to the shop, your subscriber base, and WooCommerce users are informed about it immediately.

Email Digest of WordPress Published Posts

You can also automatically email your published contents, articles, or posts on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to your WordPress registered users or email list subscribers in Mailchimp, Campaign Monitor, Sendy, Constant Contact, AWeber, ConvertKit, MailerLite, GetResponse, Klaviyo, ActiveCampaign, SendinBlue, SendGrid, Mailjet, Keap / Infusionsoft, Vertical Response, CleverReach and more using the Posts Email Digest automation feature.
